National Federation of the Blind (NFB) provides low interest loans to assist blind persons with the purchase of assistive technology including computers screen reading hardware and software electronic note-takers Braille embossers refreshable Braille devices and speech synthesizers. The loans are for one to four year periods under $3 000 with an interest rate of 3%. Must be U.S. citizen who is blind or visually impaired. If a person cannot qualify for a loan in terms of employment income or indebtedness the person may still secure one with collateral or by having a cosigner. Write to NFB fill out extensive credit application and attach a cover letter clarifying the person's goals concerning the requested technology and explaining what it will be used. At the end of the loan period the individual will have personal ownership of the device.
