Persons who suffer physical injury death or severe financial hardship as a result of a violent crime as defined by state and federal law. The injury or death must have occurred on or after July 1 1989. Any person who asserts a false claim will be guilty of a misdemeanor punished and must reimburse the state any payments received. The total award cannot exceed $10 000 and there are categorical caps for the following: Medical expenses counseling bills funeral costs and lost wages/support .
