Welcome to the Assistive Technology revolution! The world around us is evolving at an astounding rate. Assistive Technology (AT) developments have been foundational in this evolution and a catalyst producing positive life-changing results for individuals with disabilities. This preconference session will take a closer look at assistive technology and the benefits to the whole person, considering changes throughout their life span. Assistive Technology benefits individuals with disabilities of all ages throughout all areas of life including at home, in the community, at work, or in school. AT levels out the playing field, reduces anxiety, removes stress, and can provide access where it may have once seemed unattainable. Do you have questions about assistive technology? Are you running into barriers when you are providing services and support your clients? Have you encountered a unique situation that may need some assistive technology strategies and solutions? During this in-depth session participants will receive a brief overview and update of Tools for Life, Georgia's Assistive Technology Act Program at Georgia Tech, including the statewide Tools for Life Network. Presenters will explore assistive technology devices, software, and share information about real world solutions and implementation. Participants will have a unique opportunity to create some low-tech AT solutions using common everyday items. Discussion will center on tracking technological trends and knowledge transfer and will include examples of assistive technology, software, hardware, mobile technology and apps. This is an interactive session so participants are encouraged to bring mobile devices. This pre-conference session is not housed on the Epworth campus and attendees are required to drive off-site Monday and Tuesday for this session. It is about 24 miles and takes approximately 30 minutes to drive from the Epworth campus.
